Nutrient Dense “Hamburger Helper”
Anyone like hamburger helper as a child? This version is not only tastier, but it eliminates a lot of the questionable ingredients in the store bought version and comes together quickly with added nutrition from the bone broth. Here’s how I make it!
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
5 cups bone broth (making it yourself definitely saves $)
1 box of pasta (I used @jovialfoods farfalle for this recipe)
1 onion, chopped
8oz mushrooms, sliced thin
2T butter
Splash cream or milk
Cheese to top, I used manchego but mozzarella or Parmesan would be good here too
Season with: salt, pepper, garlic and Italian seasoning.
Method
1. Cook your ground beef in a large pot or cast iron skillet. Add in your diced onion and sliced mushrooms and allow them to cook down for a couple of minutes
2. Add in your box of pasta and bone broth. You want the pasta to be barely covered. Allow the pasta to cook according to the box instructions. Season your dish to taste. You may have to remove a little bit of the broth (I did) to create more of a sauce than a soup. The liquid should thicken up because of the starch in the pasta.
3. When your liquid has mostly evaporated add in your butter and splash of milk or cream. Top with cheese and enjoy!
Let me know if you guys try this and what you think! I hope this recipe helps you on a busy night during this busy holiday season 🩷
