Homemade Oreos

These homemade Oreos were super yummy! The secret to getting the true Oreo flavor that everyone knows? Black cocoa powder. Here’s how I made them:

Ingredients:

For the cookies:

  • 180g all purpose flour

  • 90g black cocoa powder

  • 4g baking soda

  • 3g salt

  • 227g butter, cold and cubed

  • 150g sugar

  • 50g brown sugar

  • 1 duck egg (I felt that a duck egg was a great addition)

For the filling

  • 1 cup butter, softened

  • 4 cups powdered sugar

  • 2-3 tbsp milk

  • Dash of vanilla extract

  • Pinch of salt

Method:

  1. Whisk together your dry ingredients and set aside.

  2. In a separate bowl, beat your butter and sugar until combined. Add in your egg and continue to mix.

  3. Add in your dry ingredients little by little and mix on low until they’ve come together nicely

  4. Preheat your oven to 350F

  5. Use a cookie scoop to scoop dough balls that are .6oz each (note: I did 1.2oz in the video, and they spread more than i was expecting, which is why I’m recommending such small dough balls. If you want large Oreo cookies, then go with 1.2oz). Roll each into a ball and flatten a little with your hands or place the dough ball in between 2 sheets of parchment paper and flatten with the bottom of a cup.

  6. Place your cookies about 2-3 inches apart on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Pop each baking sheet into the freezer for 5 minutes.

  7. Bake your cookies for 7 minutes

  8. Allow to cool completely before icing the cookies

  9. While your cookies are cooling, create your icing by whisking together your softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla and salt until it comes together to create a spreadable filling that still holds its shape.

  10. Create your cookie sandwiches by taking one cookie and flipping it so that the bottom is facing you. Ice the bottom (the flat side) of the cookie and then place another cookie on top of the filling, flat side down.

I liked to keep mine in the refrigerator. Let me know if you guys try this one and what you think! :)
