Easy Homemade French Onion Dip

I tested out this recipe today for my 4 year olds birthday party and it was awesome! I’m planning to serve it with chips but it went great with some veggies! Here’s how to make it!

Ingredients:

  • 1 onion, diced

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 1 1/3 cup Greek yogurt

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (can be store bought or homemade)

  • Salt

  • Pepper

  • Garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Method:

  1. Dice up your onion into smaller pieces

  2. Heat up a skillet and melt your butter in your skillet before adding your onion, caramelize your onions by cooking them on a low heat and continuously stirring until they are golden and fragrant. Turn off your burner and set the onions aside to cool.

  3. Once your onions are cooled, combine your mayonnaise and Greek yogurt into a container or bowl and mix together, then add your onions and seasonings. I chose to season to taste with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Because my kids will be eating this I did measure out the 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper.

  4. Continue to mix until well combined, make sure to taste test it, and then enjoy it with some chips or veggies!

Notes:

  • For the party I plan to add 1-2 tbsp of cream cheese to the dip as well, but I didn’t have it on hand today. I recommend giving it a try as well

  • I used red onion today, but this would turn out even better with some sweet onions

Let me know if you try this and what you thought of it! :)
