Sourdough Discard Chocolate Cake
When my son requested a chocolate cake for his birthday, I knew I had to deliver even though chocolate is not my favorite type of cake. This sourdough discard recipe turned out super moist and yummy, even I had a slice! Here’s how to make it:
Ingredients:
210 grams all purpose flour
330 grams granulated sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 eggs
130 grams avocado oil
190 grams milk + 3/4 tbsp vinegar (or 190 grams of buttermilk)
120 grams boiling water
50 grams cocoa powder
100g sourdough starter
Method:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees farenheit.
Prepare your cake pans with either parchment paper or greasing them. Full disclosure: I greased them, but I wish I had used the parchment paper instead, I did have a little bit stick on the bottom, but not enough to ruin the cake.
Combine your dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cocoa powder) into your mixing bowl. Sift the ingredients to ensure there are no lumps if you wish.
Then add your wet ingredients (milk, oil, vinegar, hot water, egg, and sourdough discard)
Mix your ingredients until thoroughly combined and there are no lumps
Add to your cake pans and bake in your preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the center is finished and comes out clean on the toothpick test.
Allow to cool for 10 minutes before turning the cakes out of the pan and allow to cool thoroughly before decorating. This recipe would go great with a ganache, but for my sons birthday party I did a buttercream icing with blue spirulina and it turned out awesome!
Let me know if you try this recipe and what you think :)
